REMINDER
TO KEEP ALLEYS CLEAR & UNHINDERED In
order to be able to provide emergency services such as fire protection, utility maintenance and weed control within our City,
it is important that City alleys are kept free of vehicles, machinery, appliances, wood, or other discarded material.
Several alleys have been identified as unusable due to blockage, which poses a threat to public health and
safety. Please be advised that if a vehicle is found to be blocking an alley, it will be tagged and towed at the owner’s
expense. If an accumulation of wood, junk, or other discarded material has overflowed from private property
onto a City street or alley, the property owner will be served notice to clean up the material and/or a fine may be imposed.
July 4, 2010, 1:00 pm to 4-ish, Wasco City Park CITY PICNIC All who are living in or visting Wasco are invited! Bring your favorite picnic pot-luck side dish (to share)
and drinks for your family. Don't forget lawn chairs! And how about some lawn games to challenge
your friends and neighbors! Barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided! Contact: Bill and Carol MacKenzie

After the picnic, head down to Rufus to join in their all-day celebration. Starting at noon at the Community Center
(the former Rufus School) you’ll find: Farmers Market with fresh veggies, food and wine; Family Fun with a Jump House,
dunk tank and plinko; Barbeque from 4:00-6:00p.m.; and then to top off the day – find a good view of the river so you
can enjoy the Fireworks Display!
SPRING CLEANING With warmer
weather coming, some of you may be planning yard clean-up projects. Before you burn any leaves/debris, remember to stop by
City Hall to pick up a Burn Permit. Each permit is valid for one year from the date of issue. No fee is required.
Also, please take note that there is no longer a Community Burn Pile within the City limits. (The site located
behind the North Sherman County RFPD fire hall was closed last year, with notice of its PERMANENT CLOSURE
posted at that time. No dumping of any sort is allowed at this site). Instead, you can haul your yard debris to the Transfer
Station on Welk Road which is open the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. For hours/rates call
541-298-5149.
NOTICE REGARDING NOXIOUS VEGETATION (CITY NUISANCE ORDINANCE NO. 143) Per the Nuisance
Ordinance, the City publishes three notices beginning in March. After the final notice in May, the
City will begin the abatement process on any properties not in compliance. -
Section 6 of the Wasco Nuisance Ordinance describes the term noxious vegetation as, “Weeds more than 10” high;
grass more than 10” high (excluding vegetation that constitutes an agricultural crop); poison oak or ivy; puncture
vine; and any vegetation that is a health hazard, a fire hazard, or a traffic hazard because it impairs the view of a public
thoroughfare.”
- “Between May 15 and September 30 of any year, no owner
or person in charge of property may allow noxious vegetation to be on property or in the right-of-way of a public thoroughfare
abutting on the property. It shall be the duty of the owner or person in charge of property to cut down or to destroy grass,
shrubbery, brush, bushes, weeds, or other noxious vegetation as often as needed to prevent them from becoming unsightly, from
becoming a fire hazard, or in the case of weeds or other noxious vegetation, from maturing or from going to seed." - In the event
that a particular property has not been cleared of noxious vegetation prior to May 15, Section 6 states that, “The City
is willing to abate such a nuisance on any particular parcel or property at the request of the owner of the property for a
fee sufficient to cover the City’s cost of the abatement. In the absence of such request, the City intends to abate
the nuisance and charge the cost of doing so to the property owner, the person in charge thereof, or the property itself”. FYI: The Transfer Site located on Welk Road is open the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from noon
to 4:00p.m. and accepts yard debris. For rates call 541-298-5149.
